Loving Ourselves

Loving Ourselves

As February is considered the month of love, Eva Marie Workshops recently celebrated with a workshop called “The Heart of a Woman”–one of our most popular offerings.

According to WebMD, a woman’s heart weighs about eight ounces and “this fist-sized powerhouse beats (expands and contracts) 100,000 times per day, pumping five or six quarts of blood each minute, or about 2,000 gallons per day.” It’s not a big muscle for the enormous job it does for us. I find it amazing that something so small is so vital to our wellbeing both physically and emotionally. Most of us attending the workshop agreed that it’s easier to know what to do in order to keep our physical hearts strong and healthy; however our emotional hearts can be harder to tend to.

Our hearts hold and carry so much for us. They’re the command center for our souls, our minds, our wills and our affections. One of the great gifts of our workshops is the opportunity to share our stories, experiences and feelings. When we’re able to do so in a safe space–when we can let go–we can find true freedom. When we open our hearts, we can truly experience love, joy, peace and forgiveness. Our hearts feel lighter.

We have to slow down and make time to listen to our hearts. Our world is noisy and society tells us to keep going, to push through. It’s not always easy to be quiet and pay attention to God and our hearts, but it’s so important for our wellbeing.

In each workshop, we always complete a creative activity that aligns with the topic. This time we made valentines for ourselves! The assignment was: if you were going to buy a Valentine’s card for yourself, what would it say? So many of us had never created a card expressing love for ourselves. At the end, we shared our valentines, and it was such a beautiful experience hearing all of the kind words and sweet expressions of love that we have for ourselves.

Now I challenge you to create a Valentine’s for yourself! Share in the comments section below what you would say to show yourself some love.
