Thank you for your responses to last week’s blog. I had the opportunity to use some of the life skills that I wrote about last week.
This week I started a new teaching position on Tuesday evenings for six weeks with a community outreach center. It complements the teaching and service I do with women in Eva Marie Workshops. But what made this different is that some of the women spoke Spanish, while others spoke English or both languages. This was my first class with an interpreter; it was fun and a learning curve for me.
My desire was and always is to give women my best. I wasn’t sure if I could because of the language barrier. I had never worked with an interpreter so I was out of my comfort zone. She was kind and patient with me. I was prepared for the class, but because it was new to me, I gave myself grace for any mistakes I made. It was a good learning experience.
The women in the class were so gracious and kind to me. They understood, and I was humbled by their expressions of love. I went there to share with them, but left feeling that I was the one who learned so much! It was a new beginning for me, and I’m looking forward to our next five sessions.
This verse was so true that night: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.” Psalm 32:8
The best takeaway of the class? There isn’t a language barrier when women are together. Our voices, the looks in our eyes, and the expressions on our faces are the same in any language. We had a good time getting to know each other, laughing, sharing and growing together. It was a beautiful evening.
PTL for the interpreter you had. Wonderful how the Lord provides
Yes, she is a blessing. Thankful for God’s goodness.
Thank you, Marie, for sharing this beautiful story. Sounds like you certainly conquered your fear and enjoyed doing what you do and made those ladies’ night.
Yes, with God’s help the evening went smoothly.
