Thank you for reading and responding to my last blog, The Rose. I appreciate your encouraging feedback, which keeps me moving forward. It adds joy to my life.
When you get up in the morning, do you decide what kind of day you want to have? We have a choice each morning to create a joyful day or to let the day happen to us.
What happens when you let the day happen to you rather than intentionally creating it? For me, I find I’m in reaction mode all day. My attitude can change hour to hour depending on what I’m facing. On the other hand, the days that I decide to create a joyful day, I handle things much better. My mindset is in a joyful state. I can still face challenges throughout the day; however, when I choose to handle it with the right attitude, I generate joy in my day. When I choose joy, my challenges don’t seem so overwhelming. I feel good about myself, I’m more confident, capable and ready for the day.
Joy is an emotion that we can express in different ways. It can be physically exuberant or quietly sustained. We may jump for joy when we reach a goal or cheer on our winning team, or we may simply smile to ourselves when we’ve satisfactorily accomplished something. Joy is also contagious. The more I have, the more I can share with others.
Joy can be generated in so many ways. A walk in nature, a conversation with a friend, a good read.
It often can be found in simple activities. Here are a few of mine:
- Music
- Journaling
- Nature
- Being alone with my thoughts
- The smell of coffee in the morning
- Laughing
- Trying new things
- Building relationships
- A list of things that bring me joy!
For me, it’s important to find joy in each day. As the Bible verse says, “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24). It doesn’t say anything about tomorrow; TODAY is the day we find joy.
My greatest joy is serving and mentoring women. I love to see their faces light up when they discover their purpose and realize how much they have to offer. I’m truly blessed to have the opportunity to coach and host workshops, and I hope that these activities generate mutual joy.
What helps you feel more joy in every step you take during the day? Share some of the things that bring you joy.
