Halloween weekend is here, and it came so quickly! In the Northeast, we’ve been dealing with a lot of heavy rain and flooding as a Nor’easter came through on Tuesday. What a storm! November will soon be upon us, and it will bring a change in time, crisp, cooler weather, and the start of a busy holiday season. I’m really looking forward to celebrating with my family in person this year. NO ZOOM!
As I’ve mentioned before on this blog, Eva Marie Workshops hosts an in-person Coffee Connect Tuesday every last Tuesday of the month. The women who attend set aside that time each month for an evening of fun, and we always have a good turn out. It’s something we look forward to as the end of the month approaches. However this past week, I had to reschedule due to the storm, and we were all disappointed.
The cancellation reminded us how much we like consistency whether it’s on a daily, weekly, monthly or yearly basis. Routines, schedules and recurring events give our lives structure and oftentimes, something to look forward to. Schools set up routines for kids because the consistency gives them a sense of security and expectation and helps build their confidence. Most of us have daily routines that make our lives easier and help motivate us to make desired changes. Want to start exercising, what do we do? We set up a schedule that helps us be consistent with our exercise regime.
For some of us, being consistent may not come easily. Keeping a schedule or a routine may be challenging. Doing the same thing, day in and day out may be boring. However, if we think about the people we admire most who have reached their goals, most of them have a plan that’s mapped out and implemented consistently over time. A daily routine doesn’t have to drain our energy; instead we can make it a habit that works for us and can be life changing.
Does your life run smoother when you’re consistent? How do you stay consistent and not get bored? I find that starting with baby steps and small routines that build up over time work best for me. I encourage you to do things at your own pace, so that when your day or schedule gets turned upside down (like mine did on Tuesday), you can handle it with ease.
Consistency can help maintain balance in our lives, and there are a lot of tools today to help us stay on course. I still like old-fashioned paper and pencil to schedule my time. If you’re a techie, there are so many good apps to choose from. The most important thing is to find what works for you.
Consistency is a skill we can develop. Like many things in life, consistency is a choice. Give yourself the time to cultivate it.
Here’s how you can start:
- Desire to have more consistency in your life.
- Write down how you’d like your life to flow.
- Set goals.
- Create a schedule that works for you.
- Write reminders on sticky notes, and place them where you can see them.
- Be patient with yourself.
- Celebrate your victories.
- Remember that storms will come.
- Routines have to work for you.
I am the calendar and list queen. Need them to stay on task. I like how you mentioned celebrating the victories and making realistic goals. Thats the part where I need to be kinder to myself. Positivity breeds more positivity. As always thank you for your blogs and opening your home heart and time for all of us ladies. You are such a blessing.
I love my calendars. Celebrating is important it keeps us moving forward.
You’re welcome. I am so blessed by you and the other women.
I have found it very difficult through out my many years to continue to be consistent with anything. I have just given up trying, especially with the job schedule always changing. As such, I find it difficult to participate in anything on a regular basis. It is becoming more frustrating as I get older. I hope that I can find a solution soon or just wait till I retire.
Don’t give up Jane. Do what you can do. You encourage me, you have a busy work schedule and find time to plan activities for the Ladies Ministry. I think you are amazing.
I love your blogs, Marie, I look forward to see what your topic is going to be and each topic is so true and I can relate to every topic you choose. Thanks for talking the time you put into these blogs. I do like consistency. Change can be though.

Recall routine of writing daily “tasks to tackle” as well as incorporating some sort of weekly exercise, volunteer work, healthy cooking, gratitude journeying, even responding weekly to this inspiring blog seemed to help to build integrity of a consistent balance of work, creative expression and play. It also appears when challenges are presented options to access solutions and or maintain a consistent routine is easier to balance out. However with a lack of all the essential supportive structure, in my experience most likely others can relate, how it impacts our sense of safety and security depending on our situation.
Yes, I agree writing out your daily task makes the day go smoother. It helps to plan so you can incorporate everything you want to accomplish.
Routines and habits help me to focus on what is most important.
Yes, I agree.
Routines and habits help me to focus on what is most important.
Amen to routines and consistency for me! I am lost without them!
Yes, I love routines too. I’m planning next years workshops.
Another inspiring blog!! Love these. I so need consistency in my daily life…keeps me sane. But you are so right…storms do blow our way from time to time and we must be flexible and open to them.
