The Halfway Mark

The Halfway Mark

June has arrived! How was your first week? Memorial Day weekend is often considered the unofficial start of summer, though here in the Northeast, we were completely washed out and even cold this year! But now June is here, summer is in the air, and I’m excited for its official arrival at the end of the month.

June is the month for graduations, weddings, celebrations, preparing for vacations and family reunions. It can be a busy month, and the transition to warmer, longer days sometimes happens so quickly. I don’t want to rush it; I want to savor each day so it feels like summer lasts a little longer.

As the transitional month from spring to summer, June is a gateway to so much. It’s a month of endings and beginnings as students are saying goodbye to school friends, some will start their first summer jobs or go to sleepaway camp for the first time, while others will prepare to leave for college.

June also marks the halfway point in the year. I find it interesting that the first month of the new year starts with a J and mid-year month also starts with a J.  Both months offer fresh starts, new beginnings, exciting changes and opportunities. In January, we settle in for the winter to hibernate. In June, we want to bask outside in the longer days and lighter schedules. We can open our windows, breathe in the fresh air and hear the birds singing. (I’m glad it’s still cool enough in the Northeast to not need air conditioning yet!)

June is also a good month to take inventory of how your year has been going and what you’d still like to achieve in its last six months. Are you on track with your goals? Do you want to make some adjustments?

As things are starting to slowly open up, are you making any plans for the summer? Will you travel more this year or stay close to home? As June gets us excited about summer, what are some things you’re looking forward to? I can’t wait to head to the beach on the warmer days and to spend time reconnecting with family and friends in person!
