Sturdy Seams

Sturdy Seams

I hope you’ve enjoyed your summer because it’s quickly coming to a close. It’s that time again to buy school supplies, get back on a schedule, prepare kids to go back to school and start sports practice.

With the summer season coming to a close, and a new season beginning, I’m ready for changes. September is the month for new things: school supplies (which I love!), learning new things, revisiting a hobby or starting a new one, taking a class. It can be a new beginning.

For me, I decided to clean my sewing room and start sewing again. I haven’t made anything since March and I’ve really missed creating. It was fun to organize my space and begin sewing a new pouch. When sewing a seam whether it be in a pouch, tote bag or a garment, you always want to backstitch at the beginning of the seam and the end of the seam. This is an important step: the backstitch helps reinforce the seam so it doesn’t come apart.

As I was sewing and thinking about the backstitch, it made me think about the “backstitching” in our lives. What holds us together so we don’t fall apart when we’re going through a difficult time? Where do we turn or what do we hold onto so we don’t come apart? I find it interesting what and how God can teach us about life when we slow down and think about it. As I was sewing, I started reflecting on my own life and what I do. For me, it’s pulling back and spending more time with God, praying, being quiet and reflective, journaling. I don’t share with others until I learn what God is teaching me. I want to hear His voice first.

It’s been a summer of learning, letting go and refocusing for me. It’s been a summer of growth and change. God has been my “backstitch” as I’ve been on this journey.

What’s your backstitch that keeps you going? Please share in the comment section.

Looking forward to the change of season isn’t always easy, I’m thankful for each of them. They all have goodness of God in them. Reminds me of the changes I need to make in my life.

Fall is my favorite season because It’s a time when I do most of my prepping/planning for the months & seasons ahead. It’s also a time of intentional & intimate gatherings with friends & family. Every season brings its own set of pros & cons. To me it’s another opportunity to reflect, change & grow! As I reflect on the past season & prepare to welcome the Fall, I’m excited to see what the Lord has in store for His children!
