Signs and Signals

Signs and Signals

Thank you for reading and sharing your hearts and encouraging words with me in response to last week’s blog post. I appreciate all the text messages, phone calls and cards. It’s good when we feel safe to open up and express our thoughts and feelings. I’m back to my old/young energized self this week!

A couple of weeks ago, I was in the Port Authority parking garage in New York City when I noticed a big sign on the wall that read “WRONG WAY.” Those two words really hit me for some reason. I walked past the sign, then instinctively went back and took a picture of it. (I love how God urges me to do something even if I don’t necessarily know why.)

I forgot about the sign until this past week. I find it interesting how my brain reacts to words–simple yet powerful words that I can spend time reflecting on. I started thinking how many times in my life did I see a warning sign, but I kept going the “wrong way” regardless? Our lives are always moving forward, but are we moving in the direction that’s right for us? Are we possibly ignoring signs and signals along the way that could better keep us on our path?

Last week when I was feeling out of sorts, I could’ve ignored my feelings and just kept going, pretending everything was okay even at the risk of not being honest with myself or with you. But that would’ve been the WRONG WAY. I’m so happy I listened to my gut and was vulnerable and opened up. My openness gave many of you the opportunity and confidence to respond and share your feelings, which for some, were not unlike mine. It made space for connection and support. What would’ve happened if I chose to silently suffer instead?

Our feelings can act as signals, letting us know when we’re going the right way or the wrong way. It’s about listening to the wisdom of our bodies. Now, I understand that the phrase WRONG WAY will have  different meanings for different people, but when I ignore what I’m being urged to do, I know it’s the WRONG WAY for me. God knew when He wanted me to review the parking garage sign that moving forward in the right direction meant sharing, and we ultimately encouraged one another.

Wisdom to know when to turn
Right decision making
One way or another?
Navigating life’s many twists and turns
Going in the right direction for us

Waiting for guidance
Always listening
Yielding to God’s leading

I am glad you are feeling better! I get like that a lot of times too. It’s been tough for me lately. So many Dr appointments I have. Am dealing with a lot of pain issues. But giving gratitude to Jesus helps me greatly.
