November brings with it so many changes. We set our clocks back in the Northeast, we’re busy raking leaves, we’ve had frost several times, and we’ve started to prepare for winter. In our area that means snow shovels and snow blowers are on standby for snow!
November also starts the busiest time of the year with Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations. It can be a hectic time, and it’s important we stop and reflect on our blessings and show gratitude for our lives. I know it’s not always easy, but even in the toughest times, we can be grateful. How do you record the things you are grateful for? Do you have a gratitude journal or a gratitude box or jar?
With all that is going on in the world plus caring for our families, attending to our jobs, dealing with the loss of loved ones, how can we be grateful? We have to look for it. Here are some ways to do that:
- Reflect on memories: if you have lost a loved one, try to reflect on the good times with that person. Things they taught you, favorite recipes they passed down, the laughter and tears you shared, the joy they brought.
- Watch the sunrise and sunset and soak in the beauty they both bring: one to start the day, the other to end it.
- Celebrate family and friends (old and new!); take in the cry of a newborn baby.
- Show kindness even in the smallest ways and think about the kindnesses you’ve received.
- Meditate on the health benefits that gratitude can bring.
- Show love and grace, patience and forgiveness to yourself and others.
- Look for opportunities to learn and grow.
- Worship: thank God for all He gives us.
- Have faith that things can always improve.
Even in hard times, we can be thankful. Gratitude + Attitude = Joy. When you gather this Thanksgiving, ask each person what they’re thankful for. Take time t0 focus on faith, gratitude and how you want to celebrate with family and friends.
I’m thankful for each one of you. You bring me joy, happiness, encouragement, kindness, grace, ideas and support. You’re a blessing to me, and I’m wishing you a beautiful Thanksgiving!
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

I’m so grateful for Family and Friends for good health and so many other blessings. Happy Thanks Giving!
Family, friends and good health are wonderful blessings.
Thank you for this reminder to slow down and remember the good things in life.
I am grateful for ability to learn new skills .
Marie, May this be a beautiful holiday season for you and your family.
You have learned so many new skills this year. You are a great encouragement to me.
I am grateful and thankful for so many things. My health, my family and those that share the path I walk. Sharing the long hard road of life with others is comforting and encouraging. It’s helpful to know there are others that have gone through what we are going through or just knowing they are there to listen. Thank you Marie for being a good listener.
Happy Thanksgiving! Be blessed.
Thank you for your encouraging comments. Life isn’t always easy but having someone walk beside us helps us to keep going.
Beautiful words. I think I’m going to start a gratitude basket until Christmas. Remind me of memories with my husband & family!
