Hope

Hope

I hope your November is going well. The leaves have reached their peak color and are falling at a fast rate. We can rake leaves every day and still not keep up! It’s a beautiful time of the year.

This past week I’ve been thinking a lot about the word hope–what it means to me and how it keeps me going. The Merriam-Webster definition is “to cherish a desire with anticipation; to want something to happen or to be true.”

It’s a four letter word that carries a lot of weight. Hope helps us to persevere when our days are long, dark or heavy. It gives us strength and the fight to keep going. It’s our anchor, and without it, we’d probably give up.

All of us have those difficult or hard times in our lives when we walk through valleys and feel a sense of hopelessness. With the state of our world these days, we can easily feel beaten down. There is so much going collectively and personally in our daily obligations that we must walk through.

One of my favorite Bible verses is Romans 12:12: Be joyful in Hope, Patient in affliction, Faithful in prayer.

Trials can’t be rushed–there are lessons we need to learn. I know for myself, I need hope, patience, and faith to navigate them. Valleys of hopelessness are not easy, but God and prayer and the encouragement of others help us get to the other side.

Why have I been thinking about the word hope? The last couple of months I’ve been working through some trials and without hope I wouldn’t have joy, patience, faith or the lessons I’ve learned. I’m thankful that God is always there, walking beside me on the good days and the hard days. I’m truly blessed.

Remember: when the world says give up, hope whispers, try one more time.
