Harvest Moon

Harvest Moon

Did you see the Harvest Moon on Monday night? In the Northeast, it was the last full moon of summer, and it was magnificent! So big, bright and shiny. On Tuesday, we said goodbye to summer, and on Wednesday, we welcomed autumn. Evenings and mornings are cooler now, and leaves will be bursting with bold colors soon. I’m always in awe of God’s creation, and how each season offers its own beauty and personality for us to enjoy.

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, the Harvest Moon is the one closest to the autumnal equinox, and offers “an abundance of bright moonlight in the early evening” to aid farmers in harvesting their crops. Autumn is the gathering in time; a time to take stock and prepare for the darker, dormant winter days ahead.

Shifting seasons give us the opportunity to reflect and refocus on what’s working and what needs recalibrating. We’re like a farmer caring for his crops—we plant our goals and dreams, tend to them, then wait for the harvest. What seeds did you plant at the beginning of this year? Did you plant seeds for financial or spiritual growth, for your health or career goals? With 98 days left in 2021, there’s still plenty of time to cultivate your seeds and reap your harvest. The process can be difficult, but don’t give up!

Have you already started to harvest some of the seeds you planted? Don’t forget to celebrate your harvest! It’s good to acknowledge our blessings and achievements, and to give thanks to God for knowing us and helping us: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11.

God’s plan for my life has been an exciting ride! At 72 years young, I’m learning and doing things that I never dreamed I would do. It’s not always easy, but I feel loved and supported. This autumn the harvest I’m reaping is an expansion of my business (Coffee Connect Tuesdays have been a huge hit!) and increased confidence as I go through my days.

As one season ends and a new one begins, think about the seeds you’ve planted and your harvest. What are you reaping? What have you learned about yourself? How have you been open to learning and growing? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below.

Hope for a new season
Asking for help and support
Reaping the rewards of hard work
Variety of experiences
Each day bringing new opportunities
Seeds you plant
Timing and patience
