Family Celebrations

The first holiday of this season, Thanksgiving, will be arriving next Thursday. How will your family celebrate this year?

Our family kicks the holiday season off on November 15th by celebrating my husband’s birthday. This year was a milestone as he turned 75. We had plans to travel to North Carolina and celebrate with our daughter who lives there, but with COVID-19 cases rising in both North Carolina and New Jersey, our plans changed. Instead, we had a fun virtual celebration with family via Zoom. Now we’re planning to visit our daughter and grandson in New York City for Thanksgiving, but that also may change and festivities could be on Zoom once again.

It’s definitely been a different year for all of us. Those of you who know me know that I’m not a computer person—I’m a hugging person! Yet, I’m so thankful for Zoom, which has kept our family together this year for all our major celebrations even while my hugging has been curtailed. Yes, we miss being together in person, but we’ve discovered creative new ways to connect and celebrate.

As you prepare to go into the holiday season, remember celebrating may be different, but you can still keep in touch via Zoom, FaceTime, Google Hangouts, Skype, or phone. No matter how you chose to celebrate, be grateful that you can. The secret to celebrating this year is to be flexible. I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving, whatever it may look like.

I want to thank each one of you for being there for me this year. Your support, kind words, and encouragement have helped me continue moving forward. I’ve taken many risks, trying new things and learning as I go. You’ve cheered me on, and for that I’m so grateful. God has stretched me beyond my comfort zone, and it’s been exciting and scary. He’s been there on my good days and not so good days, and I’m thankful for His faithfulness. A big thank you to my family for their encouragement, too.

I’ll be taking a break from the blog next week to observe Thanksgiving, but look forward to seeing you back here on Friday, December 4th!
