Thank you for your responses to last week’s blog on words for the new year. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who doesn’t make resolutions!
Have you started working on your dreams and goals for 2021? If so, how do you do it? I tried a new goal-setting format this year that I learned from the book DREAM IT, PIN IT, LIVE IT by Terri Savelle Foy. In the book, Terri suggests writing out your top ten goals for the year every day for thirty days. The secret: you can’t look back at the previous day; you have to write them from memory. At the end of the thirty days, you’ll have your most important goals for the year. I’m sure this isn’t a new idea, but it was new to me. At the end of the thirty days, only a few of my goals had changed from the first day. It was invigorating to see the things I’d written down that were truly important to me.
Now, for the fun part! I’m taking the goals that I penned to paper and bringing them to life on a vision board. I found an old cork board in our basement and painted the wood trim an olive green. I love green–to me it symbolizes growth and new beginnings. I love that there are so many shades of green because it reminds me that we are always growing and changing, but at different times.
My board is bright and colorful with pictures, inspiring words and quotes that are important to me. I get excited when I find just the right visual cues to express my dreams and goals and pin them to a vision board. Looking at my board is a meditative and energizing experience. When I connect with the words and images, I feel that I’m bringing my future to life in the present. Now, to find the right place to hang my board so I can see it every day!
How do you keep your dreams and goals front and center in your life for the year? Perhaps consider trying the thirty-day exercise I mentioned above. Please share your ideas and experiences with us in the comments section.
So sorry it took me so long to read this blog. Your ideas, Marie, are so wonderful! I hope to start this on Monday.
Thank you for keeping me on your blog.
Love you, sister in Christ!❤
I am definitely trying the 30 day exercise.
Especially excited to see as each day comes what I put down without looking back to the day or days before. This idea with the vision board intrigues and I would chose green reminds me of my plants and garden and all the new growth I see.
Thank you so much for sharing your inspiring great ideas!!!
